{Our Story}
Lilleputt Studio was created by Annika Schmidt late 2011, when she left Brooklyn, NY in search of a better life in Portland, Maine. After studying art and design at Ölands Folkhögskola on the island of Öland off the South East coast of Sweden, Annika earned a BFA in Furniture Design, with a focus in Textiles, from the Rhode Island School of Design. Annika is passionate about bringing attention to daily habits and routines, by creating unique items to recognize these small moments. Drawing a lot of inspiration from her Swedish background, Annika seeks to create simple, thoughtful designs, incorporating bold pattern and color. Inspired by the birth of Annika's nephew Håkan on November 1, Lilleputt Studio began with a small line of handmade baby bibs and smocks, using designer and vintage fabrics. Lilleputt now also creates linen/cotton home goods, including Scandinavian inspired decorative pillows, hand towels, aprons and table runners, incorporating Annika's textile designs, which are printed digitally in the US. All items are sewn and finished by hand here in Portland. Swedish for 'peewee', Lilleputt was named for the small size of the studio, as well as the size of some of its intended customers.
